Questions for anyone who works in the healthcare administration office regarding patient care

Posted in Information 5 months ago, 1 reply

what role does the administration play in the patient care? Are they even involved with the patients or is that left up to the other staff? I am researching healthcare administration and their role in nursing homes and the administrations involvement in the patients care and well-being. I am curious if anyone who works in the administration part of a nursing home wants to tell what they do for the patients besides determining their eligibility. And, what if someone was in need of long-term care and had no insurance how many, if any, would accept a patient in need without insurance and little money if any to put torwards their care.

The extent of administrative involvement varies from nursing home to nursing home, but generally speaking their hands on care is very minimal. They generally field complaints from residents, participate in mealtime activities, and help facilitate holiday activities. Administration that is very involved will know and call each resident by name. And my experience is that in researching the proper placement for your loved one, you should definitely visit a multitude of nursing homes. Talk to the residents, and really look for obvious signs of negligence, such as residents who are unclean, have food in teeth and dirty finger nails, or have a strong odor of urine. Big red flags. If the nursing home is well staffed, these problems will be minimal to none. Hope this helps. I am an RN who has functioned in an administrative nursing home role.
