In Oct of 2011 my sister 40 years old, had surgery on her heel. After surgery at Loyola Hospital in Maywood, she went to convalence at the Renissaince of Hillside in Il. On Dec 14th ambulance was called they found her not breathing and no heart beat. They performed CPR and was brought to Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. There the Doctors used paddles on her and brought her back. The time lapsed Doctors think was about 30 minutes not sure. She is now with a trache, a feeding tube, on dialisis 3 times a week and severe brain damage. On Tuesday Dec 13th I faxed a letter for her to the complaint dept for nursing homes in Ill. They never wanted to help her at the nursing home, I have so many witnesses to this matter. My mother stayed with her from noon till 11 or 12 mid 6 days a week, so she dint have to be alone. On sundays I would spend the day with her. When I visited her on Sunday Dec 11th she looked so weak, she could hardly pick up a fork, I also have witnesses to this. This weakness had been noticed by us 2 weeks prior to the incident. On Dec 13th she saw 2 of her Doctors, her foot doctor in Oakbrook and another not sure where. These doctors saw how weak she was and one even informed me after the fact that she looked Lethargic, yet no one decided to send her to the hospital. The foot Doctor also told me, after incident that he had sent an order for Labs and urine. Doctors at Elmhurst Memorial said to my family that what happened to my sister was, that she had such a severe UTI that it went into her bloodstream and it brought her into Cardiac Arrest. So if these Labs were done, she woulnt be a vegetable today. Also nurses there wanted at times for my 76 year old mother to do the Wound dressing, do to the fact that they were too busy or understaffed. I beleave a week or less before all this happened, my sister called 911 because she wanted help getting into the bed, due to the fact that she had been in a wheelchair since noon that day and had been taken to the Doctor in Oakbrook and had returned at about 5pm and was very tired. We now know that tiredness she felt was the infection in her Bloodstream. I had to write another Letter to the State of Ill with another Complaint and attatched her letter as well. They called me right away a little too late. They said they dint receive hers. Sure they dint, I sick and tired of these nursing homes getting away with these type of matters. Something has got to be done. My sister used to speak, immagine the poor elderly that cant speak for themselves. She also has a horrible bed sore on her tailbone. I have an appointment with a lawyer on Jan 9th. My point is my sister will never be the same again. I want something to be done to places like this.
